Drivers and Impacts of R&D Adoption on Transport and Logistics Services

Actually, technologies and applications in industries are changing via business restructuring, new business models, new knowledge and supply chains. So R&D is not focused primarily on manufacturing industry as it used to be, but on different kinds of industries as logistics and transport (TLS). Nevertheless, the characteristics of the TLS industry determine the introduction of specific R&D solutions accordingly to sectors operations. The objective of this paper is to describe the R&D opportunities in the TLS industry and how managers use them to make their businesses more innovative and efficient. Using the Structure-Conduct-Performance (SCP) model the paper identifies the links between R&D adoption and innovation dynamics. Relating the findings, on the driver’s side there are three points that are worth mentioning: increasing market competition, the relationships of firms interacting with each other and the availability and quality of complementary assets such as employee skills and IT know-how. On the impacts’ side, firms advanced in terms of implementing R&D solutions are more likely to implement organizational changes. Finally, a set of recommendations on how to further improve the continuous innovation in the TLS industry is presented

Drivers and Impacts of ICT Adoption on Transport and Logistics Services.

The availability of high-quality transport and logistics services (TLS) is of paramount importance for the growth and competitiveness of an economy. The objective of this paper is to describe how European companies in this industry use information and communication technology (ICT) for conducting business and to assess the impact of this development for firms and the industry as a whole. A comparison with some important Asia Pacific economies is also presented, indicating that some of these countries (Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, and Korea) boast very good transport infrastructure compared with the most developed European economies. Using the structure-conduct-performance (SCP) model and the bi-directional relationships of its elements, the paper identifies the links between ICT adoption and market structure, innovation dynamics, and firm performance. A set of recommendations on how to further improve the actual scenario of e-business in the TLS industry is also presented. The model could also be implemented in Asian countries

La obesidad es una enfermedad crónica con repercusiones negativas para la salud y existe una asociación clara y directa entre el grado de obesidad y la morbimortalidad, de hecho, está vinculada al 60 por ciento de las defunciones debidas a enfermedades no contagiosas. La enfermedad cardiovascular continúa siendo la causa más común de discapacidad y muerte, la segunda causa de insuficiencia renal crónica y de diálisis en pacientes adultos, tanto en nuestro país como en los países desarrollados. Hay evidencias claras que indican que en muchas oportunidades puede prevenirse y que un adecuado control de la presión arterial y de otros factores de riesgo desde la infancia disminuye la incidencia de enfermedad coronaria y cardiovascular en la vida adulta. La prevención cardiovascular no tiene edad. Se le debe iniciar antes de la concepción y se la debe mantener durante toda la existencia, y comprender el proceso por el prisma ecológico. En cada fase de la vida, preservadas las características específicas del momento, hay una oportunidad de prevención. Algunos períodos pueden ser más críticos que otros con relación a sus consecuencias si son duraderas. Por ejemplo, el período fetal, en el que se prepara el metabolismo para enfrentar los cambios del mundo externo, o la niñez, en la que los hábitos de salud empiezan a formarse. Security needs: Some considerations about its integration into the Self-Determination-Theory (SDT)

According to Self-determination Theory (SDT), there are only three psychological needs - competence, autonomy and relatedness - truly fundamental and essential for human being?s health and well-being, which can be satisfied by individuals while engaging in a wide variety of behaviors that may differ among individuals and be differentially manifest in different cultures. However, a number of questions have been raised about SDT?s contention that there are only those three basic psychological needs. The present study discusses the possibility that the security need should be considered as a basic need and its relation to the accepted three basic psychological needs. Using the Cultural Theory framework the degree of satisfaction of the basic needs, depending on the type of culture, is also presented

Struggles and pacification in the history of american kinesiology

En este artículo estudiamos la disputa epistemológica y pedagógica sobre la kinesiología/educación física que ha tenido lugar en las universidades de Estados Unidos desde 1990 hasta la actualidad. Hemos recogido el pensamiento de una muestra amplia de autores involucrados, con el propósito de obtener una visión de conjunto de un proceso que, de acuerdo con Morrow (2006), trata de esclarecer ¿de dónde venimos?, ¿qué somos?, ¿a dónde vamos? Tras el cotejo y análisis de la documentación más relevante concluimos que el periodo 1990-2013, caracterizado por una enconada pugna de paradigmas –en la que han estado implicados humanistas, positivistas, crosdisciplinaristas y subdisciplinaristas–, ha dado como resultado el dominio del paradigma integrador de Kretchmar (2007, 2008)In this article we review the epistemological and pedagogical debate on Kinesiology and Physical Education that has been going on in the universities of the US from 1990 to the present. We have compiled the opinions of a wide sample of authors, with the intention of getting the most complete picture of a process that, according to Morrow (2006), seeks to answer the questions "where we come from, who we are, and where we are going". Culture of paso de la amada, creator of ‘mesoamerican ballgame’

Se realiza una revisión sobre el origen del juego de pelota mesoamericano en el preclásico temprano (ca.1.700-1.000 a.C.). Por la antigüedad propuesta para sus vestigios sobre el juego de pelota, son candidatos a ser los ‘creadores del juego’ las culturas de Paso de la Amada, los pre-olmecas de San Lorenzo y El Opeño. Los vestigios referidos son fundamentalmente, la cancha de Paso de la Amada, las pelotas de hule de Manatí y las figurillas de El Opeño. Se concluye que la gran cancha de Paso de la Amada, la mayor construcción de Mesoamérica de su tiempo, aparece como el vestigio más antiguo del juego, y se le relaciona con la aparición de la primera sociedad no igualitaria en Mesoamérica. Se sugiere que los pobladores de Paso de la Amada, hacia 1650 a.C., fueron los creadores del juego y no los olmecas como generalmente se ha defendidoWe study here the origin of the Mesoamerican ballgame during the early formative period (ca. 1700 B.C.). We select as candidates for the creators of the Mesoamerican ballgame the cultures of Paso de la Amada, pre-Olmec at San Lorenzo, and El Opeño, as they have the oldest vestiges of the ballgame. These vestiges are, to be exact, a ball court at Paso de la Amada, some rubber balls at Manati, and ceramic figurines at El Opeño. We conclude that the great ball court at Paso de la Amada, the biggest building of Mesoamerica at that time, appears as the oldest vestige of the game and it is in relation with the emergence of ranked societies in Mesoamerica. R&D Management challenges for the desing and development of an E2E-DRM content business integration platform

Current studies on Digital Rights Management (DRM) have focused on controlling access to and copies of contents, centered exclusively on the end of the value chain (end users). This focus has been oriented towards security and encryption as a means of solving the issue of illegal copying by purchasers. In this paper, we propose End-toEnd Digital Rights Management (E2E DRM) that involves the protection of the content throughout the entire value chain. This concept is given form in the new technologies for representing intellectual property (IP) which, in a secure and unequivocal manner, identify the content at each point in the value chain: from the author to the end user, the content is identifiable in any of the transactions and statuses through which it passes. The key concept which E2E DRM must provide is not only the governability of access and copying, but also that of all the processes associated with the content business. We establish an E2E DRM model and architecture, and propose the R&D management of its design and implementation that makes it possible to protect content from content creator to purchaser. Finally, the paper also analyzes their impact from a global perspective. La socialización es importante durante la infancia y existen tres tipos de socialización: primaria, secundaria y terciaria o resocialización. Es importante diferenciar agresión de violencia porque en la violencia filio parental es clave. Se deben conocer el concepto, sus tipos y la etiología. En este texto se investiga cuándo y cómo actuar dentro del sistema de protección y del sistema de justicia juvenil, aprendiendo a diferenciar ambos sistemas; además, se conocerán las medidas impuestas por los jueces de menores. Finalmente, el caso de un adolescente y la intervención de terapia psicológica, con sus objetivos, actividades y evaluación a realizar, ayudará a conocer más el fenómeno de la violencia filio parental
